OUR VISION
Our vision is to build a community for our displaced neighbors in Mobile County on 7.25 acres of land in Semmes, Alabama. Our community will include a community center and a combination of residential houses and tiny houses.
A project like this takes a vast network of support: Volunteers, project managers, skilled builders, partners, and generous donors.
Workforce Development: In 2025, Driftwood Housing partnered with schools who have agreed to build tiny houses for Driftwood Housing. Funds for building these units are provided by charitable foundations and Harbor Freight school grants. We have reach out to the Home Builders Association of Metro Mobile to help us by building tiny houses at there Academy. Hopefully, the South Alabama Homebuilding Academy will build two units/year for Driftwood Housing so that we can house more of our displaced neighbors.
Community Funding: Our fundraising goal is to secure approximately ONE MILLION DOLLARS to build our community on 7 acres on our Eunice Drive Estates property.
Phase One of our plan, work-in-progress, is to build our a 1-bedroom, 1-bath house for a disabled unhoused neighbor and a 2-bedroom, 1-bath house for our "intentional neighbor." Our intentional neighbor will oversee the development of the community and insure that we maintain a safe environment for our neighbors.
We are actively seeking assistance from foundations, charitable organizations, local businesses, and individuals.
Our Driftwood Tiny House Funding Program helps us to secure the funds for building "sleeping pods" for our displaced neighbors. Our pods will be parked on land made available through our network of landowner partnerships and scattered throughout our Eunice Drive Estates property.
Our tiny house funding program began in February 2022. When a Driftwood tiny house is built, the donor’s name or names will be inscribed on a plaque that will be permanently secured on the outside of the haven.
So, how can I/we make our payment to fund a Driftwood Haven?
Donors can issue a check in the amount of $10,000.00 (ten thousand dollars), made payable to Driftwood Housing.
Mail check to Driftwood Housing, P. O. Box 41176, Mobile, AL 36640.
Driftwood Housing will send donors a tax-deductible receipt.
There's much, much more...
In addition to our community center, residential housing, and havens, our community will include agricultural spaces, an outdoor canning kitchen, an amphitheater, walking trails, a store, a food pantry, and a stocked fish pond. We have established partnerships for other nonprofit organizations who will provide compensation for work-training, food, transportation, and medical care.
"Intentional neighbors" will live in our community to provide on-site care for the members in our 24-month transitional housing community.
