Frequently Asked Questions

Anywhere on the Gulf Coast where zoning permits us to build.

Sadly,  no. We have at least 1,000 unsheltered citizens living outside. Most of  them will not stay at a shelter. There are no beds for married couples or pets.  Most of the family shelters are at full capacity.

Our budget allows for providing one meal each day. We have the support of the Love All Food Pantry. We also plan to invite local civic and religious organizations to provide meals. There will be a shared outdoor kitchen in our villages.

  • Consider becoming a member.
  • Consider making monthly donations.
  • Consider our Micro House Building Program. This program was designed to provide Mobilians with an opportunity to share with the building of Driftwood Village. Engage your civic or religious group to raise funds and build a micro house.
  • Consider launching a GoFundMe campaign fund-raiser for Driftwood Village.
  • Consider joining a Driftwood Housing committee: Fundraising, Engineering & Architecture, Community Development, Media & Marketing.
  • Consider volunteering at the monthly LoDa Art Walk or another special event.
  • Consider helping us on periodic work days.

It costs between $7,000.00 and $10,000.00. It varies because generous local building material suppliers and professional construction workers donate to our build. It also depends on the size of the unit and if the unit has plumbing features.

A lot depends on the size of the property. Driftwood Village must provide hygiene facilities, a shared outdoor kitchen, a laundry space, a mail room, and offices for on-site case workers. We would love to build an organic garden, park benches, a pet kennel, a warehouse, a bike rack, a memorial garden, and many other features.

Our Community Committee will be writing the policies and procedures for  neighbors in our communities. Several local service providers have  verbally offered to support our neighborhood.

Driftwood Housing will provide emergency housing (3 months), transitional housing (up to 2 years), and HUD housing (permanent). A lot depends on zoning and available funding.

Driftwood Housing strives to educate our community with information about Driftwood communities: Intake process, property management and facility maintenance, security, neighborhood supervision, discipline, an so on.

Driftwood Housing is not providing any information about our Semmes property until we have been permitted to build by the Semmes planning department.
