We are a growing group of concerned citizens on the Gulf Coast who care for our unsheltered neighbors. Our mission is to provide affordable housing for the chronically homeless where they will receive services in a safe environment.
We celebrated our second anniversary on February 9th, 2024. In that time-frame, we secured 8-acres of land for building a tiny home village. This property was donated to us by the Julien Marx Foundation Trust. We also built our first tiny house. On phase one of this project, we are applying to foundations for infrastructure capital to gravel roads, drill a well, install a sewage system, and establish our electrical grid.
Phase one, when completed, will include 15 micro homes (no plumbing) with access to a shared facility with bathrooms, showers, a laundry room, a food pantry, a mail room, an outdoor kitchen, and office space for service providers. We will build 5 custom tiny houses with plumbing for our handicapped neighbors.
Our goal is to build these homes in a campus-style community with the help of volunteers and student groups. One of our end-game goals is to provide an opportunity for volunteerism that results in a sense of service to our community and to mankind.
It is our pleasure to help our great City in any way that we can to give displaced neighbors in Mobile a hand up. In cooperation with the city of Mobile and other homeless services, such as Veteran's Recovery, we can make a real difference in the lives of our neighbors that are living outside and in danger. By building housing and shelters, we can provide a needed service to Mobile and communities along the Gulf Coast.
To raise public awareness about the need for Driftwood Village, volunteers hep Dale and Reba spread our message at the LoDa Art Walk on the 2nd Friday each month.
We couldn't do what we do without our volunteers. Please consider becoming a volunteer. Contact us!

We received our tax-exempt designation letter from the IRS in June, 2022.
We received Alabama sales tax exemption in August of 2024.
In 2024, Driftwood Housing became a member of the Alabama Rescue Services Association (ARSA). As a member of ARSA in good standing, Driftwood Housing secured Alabama sales tax exemption on all item purchases. This exemption will save us 10% sale tax on all building materials.
